The Cycling Proficiency Scheme is a Department of the
Environment (DOE) initiative which is sponsored by Centra.

The scheme teaches 9-11 year olds in Northern Ireland’s primary
schools to cycle safely, reducing the risk of the accidents. 9,000 young
people take part in the initiative each year.
Centra and its independent retail partners provide financial and practical
support, including help with the production of a training DVD for teachers
and local marketing for the scheme to maximise uptake among schools.

The Cycling Proficiency Scheme aims to instil good road user behaviour
from an early age and provides a solid foundation in good road user behaviour,
which stands children in good stead as cyclists, pedestrians and later
as drivers.
“The safety of young people on the roads is a priority
for us all. That is why Centra is proud to support the DOE Cycling
Proficiency Scheme and to help promote road safety, so that children
can avoid serious injury while cycling.”
