Almost 7,200 children were successful in their DOE Cycling Proficiency tests in 2007. Approximately 7,500 primary school children aged 9 to 11 years took part in the scheme, which means a pass rate of 96%. The Cycling Proficiency Scheme is delivered by the Department of the Environment and aims to educate children in safe cycling on and off the road and has been sponsored by Centra since 2004. Training for most schools runs from Easter for 10 weeks, with the tests at the end of the school term.
Katie Thompson (11) from Glengormley Integrated Primary School, recently passed her test. She was joined by DOE Road Safety Education Officer Service Manager Carol Wilkinson, left, and Centra Brand Manager Nicky Kelly.
