Kids Win Health Action Bikes

01/03/2008

Local schoolboy Oran Sharkey (8) a pupil at St. Mary’s Primary School, Park Village, picked up a bicycle he won in a competition run by local charity Action Cancer and Centra. The bicycle was the main prize in a draw organised as part of Action Cancer’s Health Action health programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra and its retail partners across Northern Ireland.

The programme aims to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol. Children all over the province have the chance to win a prize each term by taking part in the Wally & Wise puppet show. Oran got involved after the Wally and Wise puppet show, as part of the Health Action initiative, visited St. Mary’s Primary School. He was presented with his bike by Kerry Boyd from Action Cancer, left, and George and Josephine Gormley from Centra Claudy.
