The success of the Health Action cancer prevention programme for young people developed by a Northern Ireland charity and supported local Centra retailers has been acknowledged by the organisers of the 14th European Cancer Conference. Action Cancer was asked to send a representative to the conference in Barcelona in September, to share the achievements of its Health Action programme, which is sponsored by Centra and its retail partners.
The charity’s Health Promotion Manager, Emily Magrath, presented details of the programme, which provides cancer prevention and early detection sessions to 30,000 young people at schools and colleges each year, to hundreds of European health professionals attending the conference. ‘Health Action’ covers a wide range of health issues for young people, including smoking, alcohol, nutrition, exercise and body awareness.
