Centra Toome has presented a bicycle to
a Toomebridge schoolboy, which he won in a competition
run by Centra and local charity Action Cancer.
Owen Grant (7), a pupil at Carlane Primary School,
Toomebridge won the prize in a draw organised
as part of Action Cancer’s Health Action health
programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra
and its 86 independent retail partners across Northern
Ireland.
The programme aims to educate young people on healthier lifestyles,
including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking
and alcohol. Children all over the province have the chance
to win a prize each term by taking part in the programme.
Pupils who complete a workbook are entered into a draw and
the winners are selected at random.
Owen got involved
after the Wally and Wise puppet show, part of the Health
Action initiative, visited Carlane Primary
School. He was
presented with hisbike
by Carmel McGuckin, from Centra Toome, rear left, and
Lorna Patterson from Action Cancer, far left. Also in
attendance were school principal Mrs Lupari, rear right
and Owen’s mother Mrs Patricia Grant, far right.
Action Cancer and Centra have had an award-winning
partnership since 2003, to advance Northern Ireland’s
leading local cancer charity’s health promotion service
for schools and colleges and reduce cancer risk among young
people. Centra retail partners are involved on a
local level, promoting Health Action and visiting local
schools.
