Centra Retailers Present Action Cancer Bikes

6th May 2010

Local Centra retailers have presented bicycles to five local schoolchildren, won in a competition run by Centra and charity Action Cancer. The bikes were the main prizes in a draw organised as part of Action Cancer’s Health Action health programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra and its independent retail partners across Northern Ireland.

The programme aims to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol. Children all over the province have the chance to win a prize each term by taking part in the programme.

Pupils fundraise for the charity by either completing a workbook or taking part in a fundraiser at school – they are then entered into a draw at Action Cancer head office and a winner is selected at random.

Action Cancer and Centra have had an award-winning partnership since 2003, to advance the local cancer charity’s health promotion service for schools and colleges and reduce cancer risk among young people. 300,000 young people have attended Health Action sessions and Centra has donated over £600,000 to the programme.
