Centra O’Neill Road and Larne in Giant Fundraising Effort

26th October 2009

Staff from the Centra stores in Larne and at O’Neill Road, Newtownabbey made a giant-sized fundraising effort on behalf of their charity partner Action Cancer recently, raising £1,100 in the process.

Five employees from Lusty’s Centra stores in Larne and at O’Neill Road took part in Action Cancer’s Giant’s Walk fundraising event, after gathering sponsorship from customers, friends and family and collecting money at the stores.

The Action Cancer Giant’s Walk follows a 10 mile route along the Causeway coastal path, from the Giant’s Causeway to Carrick-a-Rede rope-bridge.

The funds raised by the Centra staff will benefit the charity’s Health Action health programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra and its 86 independent retail partners across Northern Ireland. Health Action has been designed to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol.

Action Cancer and Centra have had an award-winning partnership since 2003, to advance the local cancer charity’s health promotion service for schools and colleges and reduce cancer risk among young people. To date over 250,000 young people have taken part in the scheme.
