Centra Retailers Present Action Cancer Bikes

18th May 2009

Centra retailers in different part of Northern Ireland have presented bicycles to local children in a competition organised with Action Cancer. The bikes were the main prizes in a draw organised as part of Action Cancer’s Health Action health programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra and its 86 independent retail partners across Northern Ireland.

The programme aims to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol. Children all over the province have the chance to win a prize each term by taking part in the programme. Pupils fundraise for the charity by either completing a workbook or taking part in a non-uniform day at school and raising sponsorship money – they are then entered into a draw at Action Cancer head office and a winner is selected at random.

Action Cancer and Centra have had an award-winning partnership since 2003, to advance Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity’s health promotion service for schools and colleges and reduce cancer risk among young people. 250,000 young people have attended Health Action sessions and Centra has donated over £550,000 to the programme.
